Rural Residential Land Strategy
7 March, 2018
Fraser Coast Council has committed to preparing a comprehensive Rural Residential Land Strategy suitable for supporting decision making and potential planning scheme amendments.
Planning and Infrastructure Councillor Denis Chapman said Council would engage a consultant to prepare the strategy that ensures future rural residential development responds to the region’s needs.
“Rural residential development should provide for a diverse lifestyle and economic opportunities, particularly near urban areas and within existing rural residential areas,” Cr Chapman said.
“The new strategy will involve a detailed supply and demand analysis based on 2016 census data and market information.
“There will also be consultations with the community, the development industry and Queensland Government.”
Invitations to quote for the project will be distributed to suitably qualified consultants in March.
It is anticipated the draft strategy will be presented to Council for consideration in August or September 2018.
Amendments to the Fraser Coast Planning Scheme 2014 will also be required to deliver the recommendations of the endorsed strategy.
Planning scheme amendments can take six to 18 months to complete. Until amendments to the planning scheme are adopted, the current planning scheme provisions will continue to apply.
