Heart Foundation Walking

Heart Foundation Walking is Australia's largest network of free community-based walking groups, led by volunteer Walk Organisers.

The aim of the Heart Foundation Walking groups is to make regular physical activity enjoyable and easy, especially for people who are not used to being active. Walking groupscan be any size, and walk at various times, days, lengths and levels of difficulty. Everyone is encouraged to walk at their own pace.

Each Heart Foundation Walking group is led by a local volunteer called a Walk Organiser. Walk Organisers are the glue that holds walking groups together. They decide the route, times and days for the walks, act as the main point of contact for group members, and help the Heart Foundation stay in touch with all our walkers. Area Coordinators provide training and support for local Walk Organisers, help recruit new walkers and groups, and act as the local contact point for Heart Foundation walking.

Heart Foundation Walking provides:
An easy, accessible way to stay physically active
Social contact and community spirit
A safe way to be healthy
Regular newsletters which include health information
Encouragement and incentives to keep walking

If you would like more information on how to start a Heart Foundation Walking group or contact details of an existing group, contact your Area Coordinators - Fraser Coast Regional Council's Principal Officer Recreation Services (for Hervey Bay details) or Senior Community Development Officer, South District (for details on Maryborough groups) on 1300 79 49 29 or visit www.heartfoundation.org.au/walking
