Interpreter Services

  • Volunteer Interpreter Assistance (VIA) Service

VIA can provide an informal interpreting service for unofficial translations.

  • National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (N.A.A.T.I.)

It is important to recognise when the situation requires an accredited interpreter. Legal, police and medical matters will require a qualified interpreter recognised N.A.A.T.I..  For a list of accredited interpreters, go to the N.A.A.T.I. website.

  • Translation and Interpreter Service (T.I.S.)

The Australian Government, through the Department of Immigration and Indigenous Affairs, provides a translating and interpreting service (T.I.S.) for people who do not speak English and for English speakers needing to communicate with non-English speakers. T.I.S. is a 24 hour / 7 day service and is accessible from anywhere in Australia by telephoning 13 14 50  for the cost of a local call. For more information, check the T.I.S. website.
