Learning and development

Council is committed to ongoing staff development and training. Employees are encouraged and supported to attend training and undertake study in approved courses. 

Workplace health and safety

Council is committed to a safe and healthy work environment. Comprehensive workplace health and safety policies and procedures are in place to ensure staff are not placed at risk while at work.

Pre-employment checks

Council undertakes a range of checks and assessment methods to assist in selection, including proof of vaccination where relevant, criminal history checks, Licence checks, psychometric testing, functional capacity testing and competency based testing.

Salary and conditions of employment

Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Council's current Certified Agreement and relevant award for each position.

Superannuation

All permanent employees are required to contribute to the Local Government Employees Superannuation Scheme within 12 months of their appointment.  At this point Council will contribute 12% of the employee's salary or wage to the superannuation fund.

Smoke free environment

Council is committed to providing a smoke free work environment.

Christmas close down

The Chief Executive Officer approves a Christmas / New Year close down period each year.

Probation

Council will employ all employees other than casual employees on an initial probationary period. The initial probationary period shall be for a period of three (3) months.

Vehicle usage

Council vehicles are available for staff performing official Council work. Staff are required to produce a current QLD class C driver's licence or relevant licence for heavier vehicles.

Personal leave

Paid sick leave is available to employees at the rate of 15 days per annum. This leave is accrued annually. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the relevant industrial award and Council's current Certified Agreement.
