Hervey Bay Medical Precinct

Project objectives

Council recognises the importance of the medical industry, not only for providing essential medical services, but also for the employment it generates within the region. Council is committed to growing the medical industry by creating a medical precinct that provides a range of specialised medical services as well as educational facilities to support the establishment and advancement of medical professionals.

We recognise the importance of creating a medical precinct and service centre that caters for staff, patients, visiting family and friends, as well as the surrounding local residents.

The Medical Precinct Master Plan identifies:

  • The land-use opportunities for expansion of medical facilities;
  • The need for education and training facilities for medical students and practitioners;
  • Short and long term accommodation in a range of housing styles; and
  • Open space and supporting commercial uses including a vibrant and engaging café and retail hub to service the locality.

The plan is designed to:

  • Identify the land use opportunities which complement the existing medical facilities and services;
  • Ensure that the provision of infrastructures such as road networks, pedestrian and cyclist connections, stormwater drainage and open space supports the development of the precinct;
  • Identify place-making opportunities to enhance the precinct and make it more user-friendly and inviting; and
  • Attract investment to develop key sites within the precinct resulting in a sophisticated, engaged and well-serviced area for employees, patients, visitors and residents.
