Calling all community groups
The second round of Council’s Community, Sport and Recreation Workshop Series will be held next Tuesday (8 May) at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough from 5.30pm.
Limited spaces are still available for the seminar which will cover the operational aspects involved with sport and community groups, including organising competitions, paying bills and managing club politics.
Mayor Gerard O’Connell said a lot of clubs are often too busy to consider long term strategic planning for their future.
“Many funding programs now require strategic planning to be an integral part of the application process.
“Most clubs can’t afford to employ a professional to do it for them but through these seminars, club members will find that they are capable of doing it themselves, giving them potential access to apply for valuable funding and community grants.”
The next seminar will cover how changes in the local area affect certain organisations, coupled with what changes clubs can expect over the next 10 years.
“Most importantly, these seminars provide practical, hands-on aspects including how to write a simple strategic plan and what to do with it when it’s written,” Cr O’Connell said.
“And last but not least, the presenter is second to none.”
Host Leisa Donlan has more than 15 years experience in the non-profit sector, including involvement in every type of committee role across more than 110 different committees, including sport and community groups.
Leisa also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) and is a fellow of the Australian Society of Association of Executives.
