Fraser Coast Cultural Festival
18 March 2013
Musicians and performers from all corners of the globe will be wowing crowds at this year’s Fraser Coast Cultural Festival on 23-24 March.
Council is once again proud to be a major sponsor of the event which will officially get underway at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough from 6.30pm on Saturday.
Councillor for Community, Cultural and Family Services George Seymour said guests at Saturday’s launch will be treated to traditional Spanish tapas before a gala performance by the Flamenco Fire Gypsy Pathways.
Tickets have been discounted to $25 per person.
“It’s a fantastic celebration of culture from across the world and it’s one of my favourite events of the year,” he said.
On Sunday the entertainment comes to Hervey Bay for the annual Parade of Nations along the Esplanade and Festival in the Park at Scarness Park.
Cr Seymour said guests will experience colourful national costumes, authentic ethnic cuisine, energetic dancers and skilled musicians providing an exciting range of traditional and contemporary performances on four different stages.
“There will also be interactive art activities, unique craft stalls and roving street theatre will provide lots of free family-oriented fun.”
Organisers are promising more than 30 food stalls, 28 craft and clothing stalls and performances from 10 local artists.
“The Fraser Coast is a true multicultural society and the Cultural Festival celebrates and embraces these different cultures,” Cr Seymour said.
“It’s getting bigger and better every year and I’m sure we’ll see another large crowd on the weekend.”
