Weeds and sediment targeted
A floating aquatic weed harvester bought by Council will be used to unclog the Anembo Lakes stormwater detention basins.
"The Council has been listening to residents' concerns about the Anembo lakes, and we are taking action," Division 10 Councillor George Seymour said.
The harvester, which should be operational by Christmas, can be fitted with grip buckets to undertake selective dredging of stormwater basins to remove sediment and weed growth.
The harvester is part of Council’s long-term plan to improve water quality in its stormwater detention basins.
Council has also started to develop a Total Water Cycle Management Plan. The state government wants all Councils to have plans within 12 months.
At the same time Council will continue with plans to remove Pepper Trees on islands in the basin system and replace with more suitable species to eliminate breeding sites for ibis.
