Mary will go on rain, hail or shine

Umbrellas might be synonymous with Mary Poppins, but this year, organisers are making sure it rain won't ruin Mary's special week.

After severe weather washed out last year's Mary Poppins Festival in the Park, the Fraser Coast Regional Council has a comprehensive wet weather plan in place for this year.

The Sing-along Movie Night on 3 July and the Mary Poppins Festival in the Park on 5 July will both be relocated to the Brolga Theatre in case of bad weather.

Festival coordinator Lisa Stephenson said the Brolga Theatre had kindly offered the whole complex, including the 900 seat auditorium, and a massive marquee installed for next week's Music Teachers Conference, as the alternative venue.

"While it won't have quite the same atmosphere as Portside's heritage streetscapes and parklands, most of the activities and entertainment, including the nanny races, performances, and many rides and games, will still be able to be staged inside and outside the Brolga Theatre," Ms Stephenson said.
