Pest Control
A pest is any animal or plant that has an adverse economic, environmental or social impact on a particular place. Weeds and pest animals affect the lives of all Queenslanders. They degrade our natural resources, damage precious remnant vegetation, compromise biodiversity and interfere with human health and recreation.
The Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 and the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Regulation 2003 provide legislative measures for the management of weeds and pest animals and stock routes throughout Queensland.
Common pests in the Fraser Coast Region include:
-
Environmental weeds such as Mother-in-law's Tongue, Murraya and Purple Succulent
-
Declared weeds such as Mother of Millions, Giant Rat's Tail Grass and Groundsel Bush
-
Pest animals including wild pigs, dingoes and feral cats
