Mary Poppins helps out with National Year of Reading

9 February 2012

Everyone’s favourite nanny, Mary Poppins, will read stories to children at the Maryborough Library to launch National Year of Reading 2012.

The National Year of Reading 2012 aims to encourage children to read and spark keen readers to find new sources of inspiration.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 46% of Australians cannot read a newspaper, follow a recipe, make sense of timetables or understand the instructions on a medicine bottle.

Fraser Coast Libraries will launch the Fraser Coast National Year of Reading 2012 program at the Maryborough Library on Wednesday, February 15 at 10am.

Besides stories and songs with Maryborough’s Mary Poppins children can enjoy a craft activity.

Bookings are essential for catering purposes and can be made at the library on 4190 5788 or by email to jennifer.campbell@frasercoast.qld.gov.au.
