The Fraser Coast Regional Council has gained two grants to subsidise services to help senior Hervey Bay residents stay in their homes.
The grants will be administered by the Council-run Home Assist Secure which is based at the Halcro Street Community Centre in Point Vernon.
Council obtained a $64,000 grant from Home And Community Care (HACC) to subsidise HACC clients with lawn mowing. The HACC clients must already be receiving another HACC service.
“Council will provide the clients with vouchers so they can engage local contractors,” Fraser Coast Mayor Mick Kruger said.
Home Assist Secure also gained a $56,000 State Government grant to provide domestic assistance to help residents clean hard to reach appliances such as ceiling fans.
“The program aims to prevent injuries from falls,” Cr Kruger said.
“We don’t want people climbing on to tables and chairs to clean ceiling fans and extraction fans.”
Under the program eligible clients will be able to apply for a Home Assist Secure staff member to help for one hour. The cost to the client will be $7.50.
Home Assist Secure can be contacted on 4197 4722.
