Welcome donation for local SES

12 March 2012

Maryborough SES workers had 7000 reasons to smile this week after Blackwoods Industrial Supplies donated some much needed cleaning and safety equipment.

Two palettes of equipment worth more than $7,000 arrived from the company’s head office in Brisbane on Monday morning.

The donation included essential items of netting and barrier fencing, right down to the basics including gumboots, goggles, buckets and rakes.

Blackwood’s Maryborough Manager Theresa Wieland said it’s the company’s way of saying thank you to the region’s SES workers for the work they put in during times of need.

“Blackwood’s donates to the SES every year; last year Bundaberg and Gympie received donations so now it’s Maryborough’s turn.

“These guys were out battling local flood waters and cleaning up only last week and they do a tremendous job, so it’s the least we can do,” she said.

Twenty five SES volunteers responded to 68 requests for help during flooding in and around Maryborough last Monday and Tuesday.

An SES spokesperson said the donations were very much appreciated.
