Flood relief funds welcome

9 March 2012

State and Federal Government funds to assist the region recover after the floods this week have been welcomed by Fraser Coast Mayor Mick Kruger.

So far funds under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements have been allocated to cover the cost of Council’s counter disaster operations during the event which dumped almost 400mm of rain on parts of the region and caused widespread damage to roads.

Assistance for personal hardship is also available for eligible residents. Members of the public suffering personal hardship can call the Department of Communities on 1800 173 349.

Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements funding was also made available to help the Sunshine Coast and Gympie councils restore essential services.

“Council is still assessing the damage and repair bill to our roads, bridges and other infrastructure,” Fraser Coast Mayor Mick Kruger said.

“If the repair bill reaches the threshold to trigger funding, we certainly will apply for assistance,” Cr Kruger said.

“Council received millions in NDRRA funding to help restore roads and infrastructure following the 2011 flood.”
