Rolf and Kaye delight with painting prowess
27 February 2012
Qualities of light and stunning colour are captured in two new exhibitions to be officially opened at Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough on Saturday.
Captured Moments is a series of stunning landscape and abstract paintings by Fraser Coast artist Rolf Sieber.
Mr Sieber said he aimed to capture the subtleties in tone, movements and the play of light to make his paintings interesting.
“A tactile connection and strong linear approach shape my interpretation of the landscapes and other subjects in the exhibition. I like to capture nature in a flash which makes each painting fresh and real,” he said.
Sharing the artspace is Still Life and Other Life, a series of delightful still life artworks by Kaye Higginson, also from the Fraser Coast.
Ms Higginson said the inspiration for her paintings had come from simple everyday objects found around the house or within easy access.
“I prefer to work on paper in acrylic and watercolour,” she said. “The works vary from being realistic to abstracted and, for excitement and interest, I enjoy using heightened colour as a form of expression in many of my paintings.”
All are welcome to join in the official opening function from 2pm on Saturday (3 March) with free entry and a complimentary afternoon tea served, while drinks can be purchased from the licensed bar.
Also in the spotlight will be two other interesting displays. Youngsters will enjoy the fantastical creations in Megabats, Microsbats and other Batty Creatures, a multimedia installation facilitated by Lee Carter and inspired by the International Year of the Bat.
Cycling enthusiasts and novices alike can learn all the ins and outs of this popular two-wheeling hobby in Bicycle Queensland’s Celebrating Bike Week display.
All four displays will be on view for the entire month of March at Gatakers Artspace, 311 Kent Street, Maryborough.
The artspace is open from 10am to 4pm weekdays and 10am to 1pm weekends. For enquiries, please telephone 4190 5723 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
