Queens Park, gazetted in 1873 as a Botanic Gardens, is significant as the premier recreation and botanic retreat for the Maryborough District.
As the first park established by the Maryborough City Council, Queens Park demonstrates the commitment to provide recreational and educational facilities for the people of Maryborough and surrounding areas.
The park contains a number of living exotic and native plants, as well as hard infrastructure items that are deemed to have heritage significance to the Park.
In November, 2001 the Queensland Heritage Council resolved to enter the entire space that is Queens Park, Maryborough permanently in the Queensland Heritage Register because it is a place of cultural heritage significance. The Park as a whole has distinct cultural and heritage significance.
As a component of the Heritage listing, and to guide future works within Queens Park, a Conservation Management Plan was required.
