Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP) Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP)

The Fraser Coast Shoreline Erosion Management Options Assessment has now been released for public comment.  The deadline for submissions closed on 3 February 2012.

We are developing the Fraser Coast Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP) for its 112 km of open ocean coastline which stretches from Burrum Heads to Tinnanbar, and the Options Assessment represents the latest milestone on the road to completion for this SEMP. It is important that the broad range of views and opinions on coastal erosion management are included for consideration within the final stage of the SEMP project.

Consultants Cardno Lawson Treloar were engaged to prepare the Fraser Coast SEMP with CPR group undertaking community consultation.

This is the latest opportunity for residents to have opportunity to input to the SEMP. Throughout the project residential communities have been, and will continue to be represented on a project Steering Group by the local Progress Associations.

Individual residents of the Fraser Coast are also encouraged to put forward their views, values and expectations on shoreline management, and now to comment specifically on the Shoreline Erosion Management Options Assessment by contacting Council.

As the SEMP project nears completion, the consultants will organise community open days across the region. Details of these open days will be advertised on this page and in the local media as they become available.

The SEMP project is being completed in the following three stages:

Stage 1 – Collation of important datasets, background reports, and community values. A Gap Analysis Report will complete this stage.

Stage 2 – Coastal processes, risk assessment, and an assessment of erosion management options. A draft Fraser Coast Shoreline Erosion Management Options Assessment Report will complete this stage, and the following links are provided in order to facilitate public comment on this report:

Stage 3 - The SEMP will set the Council’s policy on coastline erosion management and the key actions, recommended works and monitoring it will undertake to meet the policy. A SEMP Report will complete this stage, and will be presented to the project Steering Group for endorsement, and to the Council for adoption.
