Impounded animals

Dogs and cats caught wandering in any street or public place will be impounded and taken to Council's pounds.

The list below details the dogs and cats that are currently impounded. If your pet is listed below, please visit the relevant pound for viewing.

Once your pet is confirmed, applicable fees and charges need to be paid at a Customer Service Centre prior to the release of your pet. Pound locations and open hours are below. 

Pound locations

Maryborough pound is located in Bright Street, Maryborough.  Open Monday to Friday from 2 to 4pm and Saturday from 10am to 12noon.

Hervey Bay pound is located in Cicada Lane, Urangan.  Open Monday to Friday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Release fees

All animals must be registered and impound / release fees paid prior to release.

• Impoundment fee for unregistered dog / cat = $102.00
• Impoundment fee for registered dog / cat - nil (1st offence), $102.00 (2nd and subsequent offences)
• Sustenance = $19.50 per day (if impounding fee does not apply).  First and last night free.
• Relinquishment = $68.00 (dogs and cats over 7 months) $34.00 (puppies and kittens under 7 months) (note: the relinquishment form below must be completed and fees paid to a Customer Service Centre prior to the relinquishing of your pet)
