Howard water safe to drink
7 August, 2018
Wide Bay Water crews have returned Howard’s drinking water to normal levels of chlorine after elevated levels were detected yesterday, Councillor Anne Maddern said.
Council’s Water Advisory Committee member said that while chlorine residuals were elevated, the water was still safe to drink.
“Wide Bay Water staff undertook field sampling that identified elevated chlorine in the water supply.
“The response was in accordance with the provisions within Council’s Drinking Water Quality Management Plan.
“As a result, water crews were deployed to flush the drinking water mains in the Howard district.
“Flushing was finished by 6pm and the water returned to the normal level for chlorine.”
Cr Maddern said that while early indications suggest a technical problem with the chlorine disinfection dosing system caused the issue, a full investigation would be held.
