Statement from Mayor George Seymour on the death of John Sinclair AO

4 February, 2019

John Sinclair, flanked by Town Crier Ken Ashfod and Carmel Murdock at the unveiling of a plaque on the Maryborough Walk of Achievers which is dedicated to John for his environmental work on Fraser Island.

"My friend John Sinclair was an inspiration. He was someone who made his mark. He stood up against mighty forces to fight for what he believed in because he knew Fraser Island was worth saving.

"John dedicated his life to protecting the island; keeping it wild, pristine and natural.  He did this when it was hard, when he was ostracised and when the easy thing would have been to quit.

"I feel so blessed to have known John. He was an inspiration who lived his life with quiet determination and whose legacy is seen and enjoyed by thousands every day on the World Heritage listed Fraser Island (K’gari)."
