Drinking water

In order to maximise the amount of water available, Wide Bay Water has implemented a system of Total Demand Management which incorporates stringent monitoring of all assets to prevent loss of water through leaks, while encouraging residents to use less water by offering financial incentives and free WaterWise community education programs.

Hervey Bay

Hervey Bay's drinking water is sourced from Lake Lenthall  via the Burrum River.

Water is channelled from Lake Lenthall through two weirs to the Howard and Burgowan Water Treatment Plants, and from there, into the city’s water mains.

Maryborough

Maryborough's water is drawn from Tinana Creek, a major tributary of the Mary River. It is treated at a plant built alongside Teddington Weir.

Tiaro

The Tiaro Water Treatment Plant draws water directly from the Mary River upstream from the Mary Barrage as part of the Lower Mary River Water Supply Scheme. The Lower Mary River Water Supply Scheme is operated by Sunwater.
