JOIN IN THE FUN
A curious Fraser Coast had its first taste of steampunk in 2019 with hundreds plunging into the Jules Verne spirit of envisaging the future as the Victorians imagined it. Steampunk is about history, fantasy, time-travel, imagination, creativity, ingenuity, engineering, machines, inventiveness, and most of all, dressing the part and having fun.
STEAMfesta is a photographic event where you can expect to be photographed.
Maryborough has established itself as a steampunk capital in Australia, linking into its celebrated industrial heritage, Victoriana streetscapes and inherent fondness for costumes.
Creative Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) will be woven through the afternoon’s activities.
Participants can expect to be taken back in time with:
- Steamers Picnic Areas
- Battling 'STEAM-bots'
- the Mary Ann Steam Train ride (Maryborough event)
- MELSA model engineers
- Street Performers
- STEAM-bot design
- New-Tech Displays
- Rotunda Musicians and Pipe Band (Maryborough event)
- Imaginative costumes and gadgets
- Local cafes in historic Wharf Street and the Mary River Marina (Maryborough) will be open and you can browse the market in Steamers Row.
