So you’ve written a book and think you are ready to self-publish

During this presentation, local author Ann Moffatt will describe her journey within the publishing world. Ann will offer tips and practical advice on editing your manuscript, designing a book cover, finding a publisher, and marketing your book. Importantly Ann will describe how she did all this, and more, without spending a dollar of her own funds. Ann is a warm and entertaining speaker who will welcome your interaction. Please come along with a notepad ready to ask questions.

Writing Workshop 1 - Writing Dialogue that Sounds Real

During this workshop, author Emily Larkin will discuss the mechanics of writing dialogue, help you to match industry formatting standards, and provide editing advice. Emily will also facilitate writing exercises, and offer practical tips to create speech that sounds engaging, entertaining, and natural. You are welcome to bring lunch and a water bottle. Please come along prepared to take notes and have fun!

Our Fraser Coast Lines in the Sand festival of inspiration for readers and writers is on again this September 24-26 (Qld Health Department COVID-19 restrictions permitting).

Writing Competition

U3A Hervey Bay is sponsoring a creative writing competition open to all residents in the Fraser Coast Regional Council area. There is no particular theme in the Blue Sky Words Creative Writing Competitor – your imagination is the only limitation. Apart from a maximum of 1500 words.
Entry fee is $10 per story and all entries must be received by the deadline 29 August 2021.
The winner will receive $200 and second place $100. Both stories will be published on the Hervey Bay U3A website.

If you’re a writer, get busy. If you know someone with a gift for story-telling, let them know and encourage them to enter.

The result will be announced on 24 September 2021 at the official launch of the Fraser Coast Lines in the Sand festival for readers and writers, sponsored by the Fraser Coast Regional Libraries.
