Fill out the Discover Fraser Coast public survey

4 February, 2019

The way visitors find their way around the Fraser Coast and the places they visit is in for a change.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the Council had received a Federal Government grant to investigate existing wayfinding signage across the region.

“The first step is to talk with local residents and businesses to find out what is effective, what they like and where they think changes are needed,” he said.

“The investigation is not just looking at the signs at the corner of the street, it will consider our digital footprint as well as printed material like brochures.

“We also want to know what tourist attractions local residents and businesses recommend their friends and family visit, and how they find out about tourism experiences.”

An online survey has been set up on the Have You Say Page of the Council website and will remain open until noon on Thursday 14 February.

Consultation sessions for business operators wanting to learn more about the project will be held next Tuesday, 5 February in Maryborough (City Hall Reception Room , 10am – 11.30am) and Hervey Bay (Discovery Sphere Theatre, 4pm – 5.30pm).

The results will be used to develop a Draft Discover Fraser Coast Regional Wayfinding and Content Management Strategy and implementation plan focused on enhancing the experience of visitors and grow the region’s tourism economy, Fraser Coast Tourism and Events General Manager Martin Simons said.

“It all starts will feedback, not just on signs but the future direction of tourism and events in our region.

“The more feedback we have the more successful the project will be.”

The information will also be used to create new content for the Discover Fraser Coast digital and print brochures; broaden the number of activities covered to encourage community, culture and economic development and promote ‘Must Do’ activities across the region.

The strategy will also focus on ways to encourage visitors to promote their Fraser Coast experience.

Business operators wanting to attend next week’s consultation session can RSVP with Claire Phillips by Monday February 4 by email at economic.development@frasercoast.qld.gov.au or 1300 79 49 29.
