Council grants support community projects and events

31 January 2020

Fraser Coast Regional Council will provide grants of up to $5,000 to local community groups and organisations to plan and deliver one-off community based projects and events this year.

Councillor Paul Truscott said the Round 2 of the Community Project Grants and Events programs would open on Monday, 27 January 2020 and close at 4pm on Sunday, 23 February 2020.

“Council’s grants schemes offer a range of opportunities for groups to apply for funding for projects that help ensure we have a vibrant community focussed on cultural diversity and community participation,” Cr Truscott said.

“It’s a pleasure to see so many community-driven activities being organised across the region and for Council to be able to support community groups to develop their projects and events.”

For Community Project Grant applications to be approved, the proposed projects must:

  • Provide community organisations with support to meet identified community needs
  • Build community skills, capacity and resilience
  • Develop and maintain community infrastructure
  • Provide opportunities for community organisations to leverage Council’s assistance to obtain funding from other sources, and
  • Provide opportunities for community organisations to assist Council to deliver on Council’s strategic goals and identified key initiatives.

Cr Truscott said anyone wanting to apply for Community Environment Grants were reminded that applications were still open and would close when the pool of funds was expended.

“Community Environments Grants offer community groups and organisations up to $2,000 for projects that make a positive and ongoing contribution to Fraser Coast biodiversity, environment and waterways values,” Cr Truscott said.

Examples of eligible and in-eligible projects and activities are included in the Program Guidelines. These grants will not be provided to individuals.

Cr Truscott said Council’s Individual Excellence and Development Grants were also currently open and would close when the pool of funds was expended.

“Council invites interested people to make applications for the expanded Individual Excellence and Development Grants,” he said.

“This program provides assistance to individuals in support of their participation at national or international competitions and events.”

Participation must fall in either Sports or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) category activities. Funding limits apply.

Sports applicants must be representing the Fraser Coast in an official national or international championship or competitions that are endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission and must provide a letter of selection.

STEAM applicants must be representing the Fraser Coast at a national or international level. Individuals must be selected by a recognised national governing body or equivalent and provide a letter of selection.
