Happy 100th birthday Muriel Crick
4 September 2019
Maryborough centenarian Muriel Crick celebrated her birthday today (Wednesday, September 4) by planting a tree in the Elizabeth Park Rose Garden.
Following the death of her husband, Charlie, in 1966 Muriel moved to Maryborough to be closer to her daughter Hilda.
Muriel and Charlie lived in Yalleroi (between Blackall and Jericho in western Queensland) where she had worked in the post office and railway office and Charlie was a drover.
In Maryborough Muriel became a stalwart of the Civilian Widows organisation, attended concerts and loved going to the Thursday market – something she did until overcome by ill health last year.
“She was a regular at Eskdale Park to watch her beloved Brother’s play,” son Colin said.
“Mum never smoked, never drank and never had a drivers licence. She rode a bike everywhere.”
After planting a tree Muriel celebrated her birthday at Fairhaven Retirement Village with her members of her extended family which includes five children (Francis, Hilda, Colin, Trevor and Neville) 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
