Maryborough Toy Library set to relocate
10 January 2020
More than 40 years after the Maryborough Toy and Special Needs Library opened in the back room of the Maryborough Library, it is returning to take centre stage on the ground floor.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the toy library had been a part of so many families’ lives since 1977 and would continue to be.
“Maryborough Jaycees started the first toy library. It became a part of Council in the 80s and moved to the current building in Lennox Street, which used to be a childcare centre,” Cr Seymour said.
“Next week, a new era for the toy library begins with a temporary move back to the city library in Bazaar Street while the next stage of the CBD Revitalisation Project is in progress.
The $2.5 million CBD makeover involves road and footpath upgrades on both sides of Kent Street in front of the Maryborough City Hall, restricting access to the current toy library location.
“People will still be able to visit the toy library in Lennox Street during the transition however some access and the number of toys available will be limited,” Cr Seymour said.
“The relocation will happen over the next two weeks with the toy library being fully integrated within the city library by Tuesday 21 January.
“Council will maintain the personalised services people have been used to and we invite them to use all the other great resources at the city library while there.”
Cr Seymour said Council was excited about the move as it offered more than double the current operational hours, broadening opportunities for people to access the toys.
“The toy library’s current limited opening hours will be extended to align with the city library’s hours.
“A good selection of toys will be on display plus there will be a catalogue available from which people can choose their preferred toys to reserve. Joining the toy library is free.”
Maryborough Library opens 9am to 6pm Wednesday and Thursday, 9am to 4pm Friday, 9am to noon Saturday, and 9am to 5pm Monday and Tuesday.
