The Fraser Coast has been chosen as a trial site for a program to develop existing welders in the manufacturing sector across the Fraser Coast.

“The Manufacturing sector has a strong history on the Fraser Coast,” Cr Jade Wellings said.

“Having access to the Advanced Welding Skills Program to develop the skills of existing welders to Fusion Welding ISO 9606 standard will provide local businesses with a global competitive advantage and will bring many benefits to the region.”

The Advanced Welding Skills Program is part of a $9 million initiative under the Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS) which supports industry collaboration on local training solutions to address current workforce skills needs.

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has partnered with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) to deliver the Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS).

“The program is targeting the manufacturing industry workforce, primarily increasing skills of existing welders in the Fraser Coast,” Cr Wellings said.

Under the Advanced Welding Skills Program, existing Fraser Coast welders can formalise their current skills through accredited training in Fusion Welding to ISO 9606.

The one-week training program, based on industry feedback, will be co-ordinated by Council and delivered by TAFE Queensland.

There are a limited number of positions available for people currently working in the manufacturing sector.

The program will start by end November.

Businesses can lodge an expressions of interest for workers to attend the course online by emailing kerry.fullarton@frasercoast.qld.gov.au or contact Fraser Coast Regional Skill Investment Strategy Project Co-ordinator Kerry Fullarton on 0436 929 854 for more information.
