Auditions are getting underway this week for a special community production of the musical ‘Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz!’ at the Brolga Theatre in June.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said it was wonderful to see initiatives like this community musical production coming to the Brolga Theatre after so many theatre performances had to be cancelled last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Fraser Coast has a colourful and vibrant cultural life, and Council is keen to ensure our community values its arts, heritage and cultural diversity,” he said.

“This new musical will provide a high level of community participation and skills development with a cast of seven principal characters and 22 supporting characters within an ensemble of 30 to 40 members.

“In addition to performers, the Brolga Theatre’s professional production team and directors Tim Holstien and Tegan Symes are also looking for local musicians, technical and backstage crew, and costume and makeup assistants.

“An information night was held earlier this month and auditions are underway this week, which will be followed by a 12 week production schedule leading up to the performances on 18 and 19 June 2021.

“After the challenges of 2020 which saw our stage and dressing rooms left bare for months, I hope audiences embrace the return of performances at the Brolga Theatre this year.”

‘Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz!’ looks at what happened in the Land of Oz long before Dorothy arrived. It tells the story of two unlikely friends and how they become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
