The Fraser Coast Inclusive Access Advisory Team will assist Council respond to the needs and aspirations of people of all abilities who live, work, and study in or visit our region, Councillor Zane O’Keefe said.

“It will provide a forum for Council and community to work collaboratively to improve accessibility issues throughout our region,” he said.

The Team will replace the former Fraser Coast Inclusive Communities Advisory Team, which has not been actively functioning in a number of years

“The change in name and the group’s terms of reference will provide a greater focus on disability access and inclusion,” Cr O’Keefe said.

“Its objectives are to advocate for solutions to issues that impact on life opportunities of people of all abilities; participate in the development of Council’s Disability Action Plan; and assist Council to become a leader in delivering infrastructure and services for people of all abilities.

“The Team will include Councillors, Council Officers and eight community members who have personal or professional experience and commitment to providing equity of access across the Fraser Coast.

“This may include people with disabilities or their carers, seniors, young people and residents from other cultural backgrounds.

“The Team will look at all aspects of community life, from the built environment and urban design, as well as key Council services and community activities and events; provide advice and feedback on ways to overcome barriers and make community life truly inclusive for all.

“By working together we can identify, raise awareness and determine approaches that will strengthen the community and Council’s ability to address social issues.

“Expression of Interest forms will be available from Council’s website www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au in the near future”.
