Rebuild for Caddy Avenue and Wedge Street in Hervey Bay

A $1.1 m program to reconstruct Wedge Street and sections of Caddy Avenue in Hervey Bay has been awarded to local company SGQ.

“Caddy Avenue and Wedge Street are both major access points for residents in the Fairway estate and a vital part of the east west road network in Hervey Bay that runs parallel to Boat Harbour Drive,” Cr Denis Chapman said.

The project includes rebuilding a 200 metre section of Caddy Avenue, including the intersection with Fairway Drive.

Existing stormwater drainage will be upgraded, including installation of new culverts across Caddy Avenue at the Fairway Drive intersection and a new stormwater sediment trap.

The work in Wedge Street includes pavement reconstruction between Fairway Drive and Caddy Avenue.

Works include the replacement of driveway crossovers to suit the new kerb alignment and associated landscaping works.

The project is scheduled to start in August and take 15 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
“The need for the works were determined as part of Council’s Annual Capital Works Program,” Cr Chapman said.

“In the budget this year Council allocated $40.8 million for roads, bridges and drainage and $2.6 million for footpaths and bikeways as part of our efforts to ensure we have a safe, healthy and active community.”
