McLiver Street, Davis Drive

Work has started on the construction of a 1.3 metre wide concrete footpath on the southern side of McLiver Street from Davis Drive to 63-65 McLiver Street, Hervey Bay.

Fraser Coast Councillor David Lee said there was an existing footpath from Main Street to Davis Drive and another running from the other direction, but they didn’t join as one, creating a missing link.

“There was some paving some of the way that is being removed and replaced with a concrete footpath,” Cr Lee said.

“This project is providing the missing link that joins up existing sections of footpath to make the area more user-friendly.”

Cr Lee said a local constituent raised the issue some months ago and as a result, Council identified it for attention as part of Council’s Walk and Cycle Strategy.

“It’s good that Council got into it fairly quickly; it’s improving safety and connectivity in the area for our community.”

The $110,000 project, awarded to Grand Civil, is being funded through the State Government’s COVID Works for Queensland Funding Program.

Nearby resident Morena Roberts thanked Council, the State Government and Grand Civil for bringing this project to fruition.

“Seeing this project underway means progress is happening in Hervey Bay,” she said.

The project includes removing the existing paved pathway and replacing it with concrete, as well as driveway replacement works, topdressing and turfing of the disturbed areas.

Work started on Wednesday, September 9, and is expected to be finished by mid-October, weather permitting.

A traffic management plan will be in place throughout the construction period.
