Scarness Park Rotunda Refurbishment

Scarness Band Rotunda

What happened

The rotunda in Scarness Park was refurbished because the timber was rotting and needed to be replaced. The works included structural repairs, roof replacement, and repainting.

Why

An inspection in September 2024 found major timber rot, including in the supports for the decking and railings. The repairs have made the rotunda safe and available for community use.

When

Work commenced in March 2025 and was completed by the end of August 2025.

Who’s doing the work

The Council’s Building Services Team led the project, with a roofing company handling the roof repairs.

How much will it cost

The project cost $55,000.

Community impact

Standing since 1926, the Scarness Band Rotunda is part of Hervey Bay’s coastal history. The rotunda has been carefully repaired and repainted to reflect its original character. It was added to the Local Heritage Register in September 2025.
