Tooth Street and Old Maryborough Road Intersection Upgrade
Upcoming Roadworks and Traffic Changes
Fraser Coast Regional Council is upgrading the intersection of Tooth Street and Old Maryborough Road, Hervey Bay, with new traffic signals, pedestrian crossings and road improvements to improve safety and traffic flow.
Construction is scheduled to commence on 8 June 2026 and continue until late November 2026, weather permitting.
Residents, businesses and motorists should expect changed traffic conditions throughout the project.
Stage 1 Traffic Changes
From 8 June 2026 (7am–6pm daily)
What is changing?
Works will take place on the southern side of Old Maryborough Road between Hastings Street and Tooth Street.
Road closures and detours
- Old Maryborough Road will be closed to westbound through traffic.
- Eastbound traffic on Old Maryborough Road will remain open.
- Tooth Street will remain open.
- Access to local businesses and properties will be maintained where possible.
Detour route
Westbound motorists should follow the signed detour via:
Nissen Street > Boat Harbour Drive > Old Maryborough Road roundabout
Additional local detours may operate via:
- Romney Street
- Dover Street
- Greenway Drive
- Islander Road
Stage 2 Traffic Changes
Expected from late June 2026 (7am–6pm daily)
What is changing?
Works will move into the intersection area, affecting both Old Maryborough Road and Tooth Street.
Road closures and detours
- Old Maryborough Road will remain closed to westbound through traffic.
- Eastbound traffic on Old Maryborough Road will remain open.
- Tooth Street will be closed to through traffic.
- Local access and golf club access will be maintained where possible.
Detour routes
Westbound Old Maryborough Road traffic
- Detour via Nissen Street and Boat Harbour Drive.
Tooth Street traffic
- Detour via Romney Street and Dover Street.
- Southbound traffic on Tooth Street will be redirected via Dover Street and Romney Street.
Stages 3 and 4
Works will continue to move through the intersection area.
Traffic arrangements will be similar to Stage 2, with temporary changes to traffic flow and property access as required.
Residents and businesses directly affected by these works will receive advance notice from the contractor regarding any temporary access changes.
Property and Business Access
Council and the contractor will work to maintain access to homes, businesses and local destinations throughout construction.
Where works affect driveways or frontage access, temporary arrangements will be provided and affected property owners will be notified in advance.
