The Mary to Bay Rail Trail is a shared path for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders, following the disused rail line between Maryborough and Hervey Bay.
Once complete the Rail Trail will cover a distance of some 48 kilometres.
A significant portion of the Mary to Bay Rail Trail already exists:
- The Mobility Corridor between Urangan Pier and Nikenbah,
- A section between Piggford Lane and Walligan Trailhead, and
- A newly completed section from Takura almost to Colton.

In 2019, Council endorsed a Feasibility Study and Development Plan to guide future trail development. Council is actively collaborating with the Mary to Bay Rail Trail Advisory Committee and the Queensland Government to advance these projects.
The Mary to Bay Rail Trail Advisory Committee includes community members, Fraser Coast Regional Councillors, Council staff, and representatives from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, as well as Fraser Coast Tourism and Events.
This advisory committee provides a platform for community members and user groups to make recommendations to Council on issues such as future development, operations and maintenance, marketing and promotion, and events and grant opportunities.
