Goods on footpath
A business that places goods or display items on public land in front of their premises requires approval from Council.
All items must remain within the building line or kerb side of the footpath and comply with the Pedestrian Clear Zone Standards(PDF, 445KB), ensuring a clear pathway for all pedestrians, including people with disabilities and prams.

Moveable advertising devices
Moveable advertising devices are temporary signs or displays that are not permanent, can be easily relocated, and are visible from a road or other public place.
Businesses must ensure all display items remain within the building line or kerb side of the footpath and comply with the Pedestrian Clear Zone Standards(PDF, 445KB), maintaining safe, unobstructed access for all pedestrians, including people with disabilities and prams.
Some moveable advertising devices are exempt and do not require approval if they meet the general safety requirements and fit into one of the following categories:
- Garage sale signs
- Real estate directional signs
- Real estate for‑sale signs on the property
- Bunting (short‑term event bunting)
- A‑frame, T‑frame, banners or flags placed directly in front of the business
Devices that do not meet the exempt criteria will require an approval.

A food business that provides tables and chairs on public land for outdoor dining requires approval from Council.

Parklets
Fraser Coast Regional Council’s Parklets Program supports eligible hospitality businesses to convert car parking bays into outdoor dining areas.
Council has a Parklets Policy(PDF, 185KB) and Design Guidelines(PDF, 2MB) to assist businesses in applying to host a Parklet.
