Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
At Fraser Coast Regional Council, we believe every child has the right to be safe, feel safe, and thrive. We are committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of every child who interacts with our services, facilities, and programs.
We will not tolerate child abuse or harm in any form.
To keep children safe, we commit to:
- implementing the 10 Child Safe Standards across all areas of Council
- providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all children, including those from diverse cultural, linguistic, and ability backgrounds
- ensuring children are not exposed to harmful conduct, abuse, or neglect
- empowering children to participate in decisions that affect them, and encouraging them to speak up about any concerns
- making sure children know who to approach if they feel unsafe or have child safety concerns
- Promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, recognising and respecting their identities, cultures, and connections to community.
As a child safe organisation, we commit to:
- educating everyone involved in our organisation about child safety, so we can prevent, detect, and respond effectively to child abuse
- ensuring all staff and volunteers understand how to respond appropriately to complaints, allegations, disclosures, and breaches to our Code of Conduct
- welcoming feedback from children, families, and community members to continuously improve our child safe policies, procedures, and practices
- making sure child safety everyone’s responsibility and ensuring that all interactions with our organisation reflect our commitment to child safety and wellbeing.
