Classical double act takes centre stage at the Brolga

- Fraser Coast Orchestra will perform Concert Classics at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough on Friday 16 October
- Opera Queensland will take to the same stage the following night with Bravo!

Classical music lovers are in for a double treat next month, with the Fraser Coast Orchestra and Opera Queensland taking to the Brolga Theatre stage on consecutive nights.
More than 50 musicians will come together for the Fraser Coast Orchestra's Concert Classics on Friday 16 October, followed by Opera Queensland's Bravo! on Saturday 17 October.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the two performances would showcase both local talent and some of Australia's leading professional performers.
“To have our own Fraser Coast Orchestra filling the Brolga stage one night and Opera Queensland performing there the very next night is a fantastic opportunity for local audiences," he said.
“It highlights the depth of musical talent we have here on the Fraser Coast, while also showing how venues such as the Brolga Theatre allow our community to experience high-quality touring performances close to home.
“You don't need to be a classical music or opera expert to enjoy either of these shows. Both programs feature music many people will recognise, making this a great opportunity to experience something different.”
Concert Classics will feature well-known works including The Blue Danube Waltz, Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5, Bizet's Carmen Suite, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite and the Can Can.
The orchestra will be conducted by Barrie Gott, whose professional music career spans more than five decades, and will be joined by Australian lyric tenor Paul Tabone.
Mr Tabone has performed internationally, including as a principal performer in London's The Phantom of the Opera, and has appeared with Opera Australia and Opera Queensland.
The following evening, Opera Queensland will bring Bravo! to the Fraser Coast as part of its 2026 regional tour.
The concert features music by composers including Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and Bizet, performed by current and former Opera Queensland Young Artists Nick Kirkup, Lachlann Lawton and Maddie Stephens, alongside Chelsea Burns and pianist Beverley Kennedy.
Cr Seymour said the back-to-back performances were another example of the variety of live entertainment available at the Brolga Theatre.
"Whether you're already a classical music fan or simply curious to hear these incredible works performed live, there are two very different experiences to enjoy across the weekend," he said.
Concert Classics will be held at the Brolga Theatre from 7.30pm on Friday 16 October 2026.
Bravo! will be held at the Brolga Theatre from 7pm on Saturday 17 October 2026.
