Fraser Coast celebrates record-breaking Tones and I Concert

The Fraser Coast has reinforced its reputation as a major events destination, with 8,100 tickets sold for the Tones and I concert at the Maryborough Showgrounds & Equestrian Park on Sunday night.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the show was the largest ticketed live music event ever held at the venue and the biggest of Tones and I’s regional concert series.

“Tones and I is one of Australia’s most successful artists, rising to global fame with her hit Dance Monkey, which topped charts around the world,” he said.

“To see thousands of people come together for a performance of this calibre is a fantastic outcome for our community.

“This event shows the Fraser Coast is firmly on the radar for major touring acts and highlights our region as an accessible, capable host for large-scale events.”

Cr Seymour said more than 50% of attendees travelled from outside the Fraser Coast, with visitors coming from across Southeast Queensland to enjoy the show.

The evening showcased strong local talent, with Fraser Coast artist Emma Newman opening the concert before Illy took to the stage ahead of the headline performance.

Deputy Mayor Sara Diana Faraj said the benefits extended well beyond the stage.

“Major events like this bring visitors to our region who stay locally, dine locally and support local businesses,” Cr Faraj said.

“They also give residents the opportunity to experience world-class entertainment close to home.

Cr Faraj thanked volunteers, event staff, SES crews and the Queensland Police Service for their support.

“The community spirit on the night was exceptional and showed the Fraser Coast at its very best.

“With a growing calendar of major events including the Red Hot Summer Tour, Sounds of Rock, Summersalt, the Odyssey Festival and the upcoming Hervey Bay Half Marathon - the Fraser Coast continues to strengthen its position as a destination for music, sport and cultural experiences.”
