Fraser Coast businesses, community groups and residents are being encouraged to turn the region green and gold on Thursday as Queensland celebrates six years until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
Maryborough City Hall will shine green and gold on Thursday night (23 July) as part of a statewide celebration marking the countdown to Brisbane 2032. Local businesses are encouraged to join in by decorating shopfronts, lighting buildings, creating themed displays or sharing their support online. Businesses and residents are encouraged to go green and gold again on Monday 24 August 2026, when City Hall will once again light up to mark six years until the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games. Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the countdown was a chance for the community to celebrate the region’s place in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games journey.
“Brisbane 2032 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Queensland, and it's exciting to see the Fraser Coast included in that vision,” he said. “With Maryborough proposed to host Olympic archery, our region has an important role to play in the Games and the legacy they will leave for regional Queensland. “This is about more than a sporting event. It’s about creating lasting benefits through improved infrastructure, increased visitation, economic growth and support for local businesses and residents. “I encourage businesses across the Fraser Coast to get involved by going green and gold on Thursday 23 July and Monday 24 August. “Whether it’s decorating a shopfront, lighting up a building, creating a themed display or simply encouraging staff to wear green and gold, every contribution helps build excitement for Brisbane 2032. “As planning continues, Council is working closely with Games partners to help ensure the Fraser Coast is well placed to maximise the economic, tourism and community benefits Brisbane 2032 presents.”
