Fraser Coast Regional Council has formally confirmed its commitment to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, marking an important step in preparations for the region to host archery in Maryborough. Council today endorsed the Delivery Partner Guarantee Deed, an essential agreement that allows planning to continue with the Queensland Government and Games organisers. Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the decision ensures the region remains strongly positioned to benefit from the opportunities the Games may bring. “This is a significant moment for the Fraser Coast and an important step in making sure our region is ready to play its part in the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said. “Since the announcement of Maryborough as the proposed host city for archery, we have seen a tremendous increase in the sport and participation at the different archery clubs on the Fraser Coast. “Endorsing this agreement confirms we are ready to work alongside the Queensland Government and Olympic Organising Committee to deliver a successful event while maximising the lasting benefits for our community. “This is about more than a sporting event. It’s about creating a legacy through improved infrastructure, increased visitation, economic growth and opportunities for local businesses and residents.” Economic Development spokesperson Cr Daniel Sanderson said the decision maintained momentum and certainty for planning ahead of the 2032 Games. “The Olympic and Paralympic Games will attract visitors, investment and international attention,” he said. “We want to make sure local businesses, tourism operators and community groups are well positioned to benefit from everything the Games will bring – before, during and long after 2032.” As a Delivery Partner, Council will work collaboratively with the Queensland Government and other host regions to plan for venues, transport, visitor services and community celebrations. Maryborough was announced in March 2025 as the proposed host city for Olympic and Paralympic archery, placing the Fraser Coast among the key regional locations for the Brisbane 2032 Games. Further details about planning, services and long-term legacy projects will be developed over the coming years as preparations continue.
