Psychological First Aid Training

Would you know what to say if someone close to you was overwhelmed, struggling or grieving after a traumatic event?

Fraser Coast Regional Council is offering free Psychological First Aid (PFA) training to residents aged 15 and over, helping build practical skills to support people experiencing crisis.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the two-hour, self-paced online course equips participants with the confidence to recognise when someone may need help, respond with care, and connect them to further support if required.

“Many people want to help when someone is going through a tough time, but they’re often unsure what to say or do,” he said.

“This training provides practical tools to check in with someone, respond calmly and compassionately, and help them feel supported.

“Delivered by Lifeline Training, with funding from the Community Recovery Program, this course takes a whole-person approach, acknowledging that crisis can affect people emotionally, socially, physically, spiritually and psychologically.

“The training is relevant across a wide range of situations, including workplace incidents, natural disasters, accidents, community emergencies and critical incidents.”

The course covers:

  • An introduction to Psychological First Aid
  • How to recognise when someone has been affected
  • How to respond with appropriate care
  • When and how to refer for additional support
  • Looking after your own wellbeing
