Funding boost helps upgrade Mary to Bay Rail Trail

- Funding expected to deliver an additional 2.5 kilometres of improved trail
- Supports a popular community asset for walking, cycling and outdoor recreation
More improvements are on the way for the Mary to Bay Rail Trail after Fraser Coast Regional Council endorsed $50,000 in funding to help upgrade the popular community trail.
The funding will be provided to the Fraser Coast Bicycle Users Group (FCBUG), which has been leading development and maintenance works on sections of the trail.
Mayor George Seymour said the funding would help accelerate work on a section of the trail between Takura and Churchill Mine Road.
“The Mary to Bay Rail Trail is a popular place for people to walk, ride and enjoy the outdoors," he said.
“This funding will help deliver another 2.5 kilometres of improved trail, making the experience safer and more enjoyable for users.
“It's a practical investment that provides immediate benefits for local residents and visitors while supporting the long-term vision for the trail.
“The trail encourages people to get active, connect with nature and experience parts of the Fraser Coast they may not otherwise visit.
“The Fraser Coast Bicycle Users Group and its volunteers have done an incredible job progressing this project over many years.
“Their passion and hard work have helped transform sections of the former rail corridor into a valuable community asset that people can enjoy for recreation, exercise and exploring our region.
“Council had previously set aside funding to investigate potential trail connections into the Maryborough CBD.
“As that work did not proceed this financial year, we’ve redirected the funds to trail improvements that can be delivered now, allowing us to keep building momentum on the project.
“Every new section completed brings us closer to creating an even bigger drawcard for visitors while giving locals another great place to enjoy."
Council has supported the ongoing development of the Mary to Bay Rail Trail through a three-year funding agreement with FCBUG and will continue working with community partners to support the trail's future growth.
