Help us reach 100,000 trees with tree planting days

Fraser Coast residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and help grow a greener region, with three community tree‑planting days scheduled across Maryborough, Booral and Takura from next month.
Fraser Coast Regional Council Environment spokesperson Cr Zane O’Keefe said the free events are a great way for locals to connect with nature while contributing to the region’s environmental future.
“Planting trees is good for the environment and good for the community. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, improve air quality, conserve water, protect soil, provide shade and support wildlife,” Cr O’Keefe said.
“The Fraser Coast’s rich natural environment is one of its greatest assets, and community planting days play an important role in Council’s goal to plant 100,000 trees by 2030.
“Our current tally sits at 89,602 trees, so we’re looking forward to the community’s help to reach that 100,000 milestone.”
The Community Tree Planting events include:
Saturday March 21 – World Planting Day: E B Uhr Park, Corner Edward & Tanner Streets, Maryborough (8am – 10am)
Saturday June 6 – World Environment Day: Possum Park, Booral (8am – 10am)
Saturday July 25 – National Tree Day: Takura Environmental Reserve (8am – 10am)
Cr O’Keefe said these events play a pivotal role in preserving, protecting, and managing the Fraser Coast’s unique environment.
“Council will provide trees, tools, gloves and a BBQ breakfast. Participants are asked to wear enclosed shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle,” he said.
“It’s all part of Council’s plan to shape a healthy future for the Fraser Coast and create a destination for future generations to come. It’s all about building better communities together.”
