Major upgrade underway at Oleander Park

A brand-new playground, bike track and multi-use court are on the way for families at Oleander Park on the border of Scarness and Kawungan, with work kicking off this week on the popular neighbourhood park.
Fraser Coast Deputy Mayor Cr Sara Diana Faraj said the upgrade would transform the existing play space into a more modern, inclusive and active park for local families.
“Oleander Park is a well-loved local park, and this upgrade will give families even more reasons to spend time outdoors together,” she said.
“The new design includes modern playground equipment, a shaded sand play area, a concrete bike track and a multi-use half court – creating a space that encourages active play for kids of all ages.”
Cr Faraj said the preferred design was strongly supported by the community, with more than 80 per cent of respondents selecting the final concept during consultation in 2025.
“More than 700 residents took part in the consultation, and their feedback has directly shaped what’s now being delivered,” she said.
“It’s especially pleasing that local children also had input into the design, helping ensure the park reflects how young people want to play and spend time outdoors.
“This is another way Council is investing in neighbourhood parks to encourage children to get active, be creative and connect with their community.”
Works are expected to be completed by the end of April, weather permitting.
During construction, the playground and surrounding area will be temporarily closed to ensure public safety.
The upgrade supports the Fraser Coast Park Strategy 2041, which guides how Council plans and delivers the right parks in the right places across the region.
