Residents across Hervey Bay will soon see construction begin on four new footpaths designed to make neighbourhoods safer, more connected and easier to get around.

Works will be carried out on Gilston Road, Squire Street, Denmans Camp Road and Main Street as part of Council’s Active Travel Strategy.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the $1.7 million footpath upgrade project would improve everyday access for the community.

“Whether it’s walking to school, exercising or getting to nearby parks and shops, safe footpaths make a real difference to daily life,” he said.

“These projects will complete missing links in the footpath network and make it easier for families, students and older residents to move around their neighbourhoods without relying on a car.”

The works include:

  • Gilston Road, Wondunna – a new footpath from 95 Gilston Road to the Gilston Road Recreation Area
  • Squire Street, Kawungan – a new footpath on sections of both sides of the street between Doolong Road and Snapper Street
  • Denmans Camp Road, Kawungan – a new footpath between Boundary Road and Doolong Road
  • Main Street, Urraween – a new footpath on the eastern side from Urraween Road towards Stirling Drive.

Construction will begin in early March on Gilston Road, with the works to be completed progressively through to July, weather permitting.

The Denmans Camp Road footpath project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants program.

Residents will be notified ahead of works in their area, with traffic and pedestrian management measures in place during construction.
