New bridge and floodway on Forestry Road, Bauple

A new bridge and floodway on Forestry Road in Bauple is now open, restoring a safer and more reliable route for locals travelling in and out of the area.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said Council started replacing the ageing timber bridge in September 2025 after it failed and a temporary side track was put in place more than 12 months ago.

“This project is about getting a vital local connection back to a standard our community can rely on,” he said.

“A permanent structure improves safety for everyday trips, helps keep traffic moving during wet weather, and reduces the risk of sudden closures that disrupt residents, school drop-offs and local services.

“It also gives Council a more durable piece of infrastructure that is easier to maintain over the long term.”

Works have included:

  • removal of the existing timber bridge and installation of new culverts
  • rock protection and drainage works
  • construction of a concrete floodway and batters
  • removal of the temporary side track
  • landscaping and signage

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Phil Truscott said residents were ready to see the temporary detour removed.

“Forestry Road is an important local route used by residents to get kids to school and to move around the area,” Cr Truscott said.

“Council thanks the community for their patience while this essential upgrade was completed.”
