Strong development supporting Fraser Coast’s future

The Fraser Coast is attracting strong investment, with more than 1,200 development approvals granted and thousands of building applications received during the 2025/26 financial year, supporting new homes, businesses and opportunities across the region.
Mayor George Seymour said the latest development figures reflected confidence in the Fraser Coast as a place to live, work and invest.
“The Fraser Coast’s unemployment rate is at a record low, highlighting the strength of our economy. The development figures show that confidence is translating into new housing, new businesses and investment across our communities,” he said.
“From residential estates and commercial centres to industrial and agricultural opportunities, development activity is helping create jobs, support local businesses and build the infrastructure needed for our future.”
During the 2025/26 financial year, Council approved 1,269 development applications, creating the pathway for 1,166 new lots across the Fraser Coast.
A total of 4,516 building applications were received during the year, covering new homes, commercial developments and other building projects.
Cr Seymour said development activity was occurring across the region, supporting growth in both established communities and emerging areas.
“Growth isn't happening in just one part of the Fraser Coast. We are seeing investment and new opportunities across Hervey Bay, Maryborough and our surrounding communities,” he said.
Examples of major developments underway or progressing include:
- Dundowran Commercial Centre, supporting new retail and business opportunities in the growing Dundowran area;
- Woolworths Kawungan, providing additional retail services for the Hervey Bay community;
- St Helens Residential Estate, Maryborough, which includes 233 new residential lots;
- 11 Watson Street, Pialba, a 56-unit residential development supporting increased housing choice;
- Vivacity Development at Craignish, a relocatable home park providing additional lifestyle living opportunities;
- Macadamia plantation development at Bidwill, supporting agricultural investment and diversification.
Cr Seymour said well-planned development was important for ensuring the Fraser Coast continued to be a great place to live, work and invest.
“Construction and development play an important role in our local economy, supporting businesses, creating employment and helping deliver the homes, services and infrastructure our communities need,” he said.
“Council will continue working with developers, industry and all levels of government to support sustainable growth and ensure development delivers positive outcomes for our communities.”
