The Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens and Orchid House provide opportunities for residents to actively participate in one or more areas of the gardens:
- Orchid House Hosts - welcoming visitors to the Orchid House, answering questions and providing tours and information.
- Friends of the Botanic Garden - helping to maintain and improve public areas of the gardens
- Orchid House Nursery - help maintain and propagate plants in the Orchid House collection.
Volunteers are extremely important in the Botanic Gardens, helping with propagation and maintenance of the plants, gardens and Orchid House. There are regular opportunities to learn new skills, from caring for a garden, to identifying native fauna – birds, butterflies and garden insects – to learning about bush tucker and medicines, all in a friendly and welcoming environment.
