Orchid House Guided Tour - BGANZ Week

Next date: Tuesday, 19 May 2026 | 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Inside the Orchid House in Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens
Discover the diverse array of native and exotic orchids on display from the Botanic Garden's Orchid Collection on this guided tour of the Orchid House and Gardens as part of Botanic Gardens Week.

Held as part of Botanic Gardens Week 2026, join Orchid House Horticulturist, Scott Phillips, and members of the Botanic Gardens team for a leisurely tour of the Orchid House and curated gardens.

Beginning in the Orchid House, you'll learn about it's history and the orchids currently on display from some of the more than 5,500 plants that form the Hervey Bay Botanic Garden's Orchid Collection.

The collection includes 85 different orchid genera including popular orchids such as cattleyas, dendrobiums, oncidiums, phalaenopsis and brassias; native orchids including cymbidiums, spiranthes and phaius; rare orchids including the Vanilla planifolia; and accompanying indoor plants including the Fraser Island King Fern, Pitcher Plant and the giant White Bat Plant.

You'll then be guided through some of the specialised gardens as you hear about the history of the Botanic Gardens from their initial establishment and ongoing development through to today. There will also be plenty of time for questions.

This tour will keep to the garden's paths making it accessible for all. Please bring a hat, wear covered shoes suitable for walking and allow between 60 and 90 minutes. Meet at the Orchid House inside the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens.

This year’s Botanic Gardens Week theme celebrates the health and wellbeing benefits of botanic gardens, making this the perfect opportunity to feel more grounded, calm and connected through nature.
